Call for Candidacies: ALFAn Executive Committee 2026–2028

During the VIII Conference of the Latin American Association for Analytic Philosophy (ALFAn), to be held in Lima, Peru, from August 3 to 7, 2026, we will elect the new Executive Committee for the 2026–2028 term. In accordance with Section III of the ALFAn Bylaws and with the resolutions of the Executive Committee, we hereby open the formal nomination period for the following positions:

  • President (on a joint ticket with the Treasurer, per the mechanism described below)
  • Vice President
  • Members-at-Large (a minimum of four, each from a different country)

Candidacies are submitted either individually by position or as a slate. The President–Treasurer pair runs as a single joint candidacy, in accordance with the mechanism approved for this cycle.

Nomination Mechanism for President and Treasurer

For the 2026–2028 term, the Executive Committee has approved the joint president–treasurer ticket. Each presidential candidacy must be submitted together with its treasurer candidacy, both from the same country, in accordance with the bylaws clause requiring that the Treasurer be from the same country as the President. Stand-alone treasurer candidacies will not be accepted.

Eligibility Requirements

In accordance with the current Bylaws, individuals may register as candidates provided they meet all of the following conditions:

  • Be a regular member of ALFAn.
  • Be current on dues at the time the candidacy is registered. Payment difficulties tied to geographic restrictions (PayPal, international transfers) are evaluated on a case-by-case basis; prospective candidates may write to the Treasurer before the candidacy deadline.
  • Be employed at an institution of higher education, research center, or equivalent in a Latin American country.

Members of the current Executive Committee who meet these requirements may run for reelection, in accordance with the Bylaws, which permit one consecutive reelection.

Restrictions on Executive Committee Composition

The Bylaws set forth the following restrictions, which candidates should keep in mind:

  • The President and the Vice President must be from different countries.
  • The Treasurer must be from the same country as the President and also serves as Secretary of the Association.
  • The Members-at-Large must be from different countries from one another (a minimum of four countries represented); they may share nationality with the President, the Vice President, or the Treasurer.

Required Documentation

Each application must be sent to elecciones@alfan.org and include:

  • Full name and country of professional residence.
  • Institutional affiliation.
  • Position sought. Presidential candidacies must also specify the name, country, and institutional affiliation of the accompanying treasurer candidacy.
  • A brief CV (no more than two pages).

Deadline

Candidacies must be received no later than Friday, June 26, 2026, 11:59 PM (Lima time, GMT-5). This date meets the bylaws requirement that candidacies be registered at least one month before the opening of electronic voting.

In accordance with the Bylaws, voting will be conducted as follows:

  • Electronic voting (for regular members unable to attend the VIII ALFAn Conference): from July 27 to August 2, 2026.
